The short version

GeoPunch has no accounts and no servers of ours. Your shifts, breaks, and work address stay in a database on your device — nothing is collected, nothing is shared, and nothing is sold. The two exceptions, both narrow and both explained below, are your phone's own operating system (which runs the geofence) and, only when you type an address, a geocoding lookup to turn text into coordinates.

Location data

GeoPunch uses your device's location to detect when you enter or leave the single work address you configure. That detection is a geofence — a circular region registered with your phone's operating system (Core Location on iOS). The OS itself watches for the crossing and wakes the app; GeoPunch does not poll your position in the background, and your coordinates are never sent to us or to anyone else.

Address search

When — and only when — you search for your work address on the Setup screen, the text you type is sent over HTTPS to OpenStreetMap Nominatim (their privacy policy) to turn it into coordinates. If you tap "Use current location" instead, your coordinates are sent to Apple's built-in geocoding service on your iPhone to look up a readable street address. Both lookups happen only while you are setting up your work address — never during a normal clock-in or clock-out.

Notifications

GeoPunch schedules local notifications — clock-in and clock-out confirmations, a "you've reached your target" alert, a break-ending reminder — directly on your device through the OS notification system. These are not push notifications: no message passes through a server of ours or anyone else's to reach your phone.

Data storage

All shift sessions, break records, and settings live in a local SQLite database on your device. Uninstalling GeoPunch deletes it. If your device has system backup enabled, your operating system may include this database in your encrypted device backup — the same way it backs up any other app's local data.

Third parties

GeoPunch contains no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking libraries. The only outside services that ever receive anything are the two geocoding providers named above, and only while you're actively setting up your work address.

Your data, your control

  • Delete a shift or your work address any time from within the app.
  • Uninstalling GeoPunch removes its local database from your device.
  • Nothing is retained on our end, because nothing is sent to us in the first place.
